Pages of Generator inaccessible upon start

For some reason, every time that I start a crawl, I am unable to access any of the pages belonging to the generator except for the documentation.html page. Why is this?

I can open the documentation.html page and it seems fully functional, but clicking on any of the tabs (Configuration, Crawling, Analyze, etc.) at the top of the page results in a long wait until finally I get a "Internet explorer cannot display this page" message.

However, after several minutes (over 20) the other pages become available.  This is very frustrating as I cannot pause/interrupt the crawler for at least 20 mins. after I start it. Therefore, if I start it and then decide I need to change something, I have to wait and wait.

Can anyone help with this problem?
