Sitemap hell , hell as in help?

Hello
 I am wondering if you could guide me in the right direction
I have a website that is done in html code on the notetab and I want to set up a sitemap for my website
Now I find this sitemap at google
and put my Url into the space provided and it gives me all these code options
So
I am left a little confused which is very easy for me and I am wondering if you can guide me somewhere or to some one that could assist me with this?

I set these codes up on a new page I called sitemap and set it up in a new folder called Public la la
and with the codes they have given me do I then have to add the href etc to it
Or am I just barking up the wrong tree

I can add the details
I just dont know which ones to add
also are the codes just to go in the page and not seen
and then I make my own codes for a site map?

Then upload it the main folder of your own site, so that it can be opened as yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml.
