I am very sorry to trouble members of this forum (with such a basic question) but I really need (just a little) pre-purchase information.

I am an (unpaid academic) reviewer (including websites) for the American Library Association. I frequently visit websites and need a handy way of crawling through a site and finding both its broken and unbroken links.

My question: Can the full program crawl through a site (not my own) and indicate (in a directory structure, preferably) broken links AND let me directly click on the indicated broken links to test them myself?

Again, I am so very sorry to trouble you, and the program seems excellent, but I really need to know if the "full-blown" version does the above.

Hello Bob,

yes, Standalone Sitemap Generator has a "Broken Links Check" feature, which displays a list of dead link and corresponding "referring page" URLs (demo version: http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/generator-demo/).

Please note, however, that according to License Agreement (http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/license.html), you are not allowed to create sitemaps that you do not own (additional liceses are required for this). But you can use the broken links finder for yourself, as far as you do not distribute the resulting sitemap to the site owners.

You can also find some broken links checker software on the net (specialized in the task you described).

Thank you for your interest.
