Not indexing new pages

I recently (July 4) changed the menu on a site, adding new links and new pages. I generated a sitemap.xml on the same day that I made the changes and uploaded and the sitemap didn't include the new pages. I then waited until today (July 10) and tried again but, again, the pages aren't included on the sitemap.xml file. I don't know how this is possible unless the sitemap program is using a cached version of the site, but I can't see why it would do that. FYI - these links to NOT go to another site, so that is not the problem.
