Please forgive my ignorance!
I have managed to set sitemap generator up on my html sites without any problems however on my php sites I encounter the following message;
An error occurred: There was an error while retrieving the URL specified@
[external links are visible to admins only]
Error message:Error opening socket to [external links are visible to admins only]

Does sitemap generator it work with PHP scripted sites?

Hello,
Probably there is a configuration problem - it looks like your server doesn't allow local network connections via port 80 (http) - as a result sitemap generator is not able to crawl the site. This is usually related to firewall installed at the host - could you please contact your hosting support regarding this?

If there was a config/port issue why does my site with html pages work, all my sites are on my shared server?

I have just tried to install it on another of my html sites and got the same error - I have emailed my server host for advice on what you have stated above.
