Not making xml sitemap visible
« on: August 25, 2008, 10:13:35 PM »
I may be missing something here, but I am new to xml sitemaps and SEO, so bare with me!  I decided to use/try xml-sitemap (free online version), but I do not like the look of the xml sitemap that it returns. I already have an html sitemap on my page, so I am wondering, can I leave the current site map up that I have and just use the xml sitemap to submit to Google? I will still upload it to my server, just not link it anywhere from my site! Or does that make the Google sitemap submission for SEO pointless? TIA!

Okay, I was confused obviously....so I am to upload the xml, but for the visual part of it, use the html? Can I use my html sitemap instead (it is different than the one generated by xml-Sitemaps)...TIA

Exactly - xml sitemap should only be submitted to search engines (Google/Yahoo), while html sitemap is used on visible part of the site.
