Pinging search engines?
« on: September 08, 2009, 11:20:36 PM »
Hello, I was wondering what the generator does in terms of notifying search engines of an update? Does it even ping any of them? If so, when, and which engines?

Thanks!

Yes, it pings Google, Yahoo, Live, Ask and Moreover.

Does it do this automatically, or do I need to set it up somewhere?

It pings search engines every time sitemap is created. There is a special setting in configuration for that, this setting is enabled by default.

What URL does it sent to the ping?

Obviously domain.tld/sitemap.xml

But which field in the config file?
Does it use xs_smurl ?
I will want it to send domain.tld/sitemap.xml and not server.mydomain.tld/domain/generator/sitemap.xml
Because of this never being explained or being told to make sure my sitemap URL is domain.tld/sitemap.xml I have avoided using this great feature.

Thanks

It sends URL as you have it defined in generator configuration, "Your Sitemap URL" setting.
