Sitemap too big
« on: August 02, 2010, 09:42:03 AM »
Hello,

I have an internet site with 2.000 photos. I use the new xml-sitemaps version to generator to include image sitemaps too. But the size of the resulting sitemap is 15 MB.  Google says, it's too big, see attachment. :o

How can I make different sitemap-parts from this? Any idea?
Thank you in advance.

Kind regard,
Frank

Hello,

you should decrease the "Number of URLs per file in XML sitemap" setting to keep the sitemap file size under 10Mb, try to set it to "4000" for instance.

Thank you.

But then my sitemap isn't complete.  ::)
Is there no option to automatically generate multiple sitemaps?
Any idea?

Okay, now I started with a limit of 4000. In attachment defect-xml-sitemaps-settings.png you see a screenshot of this setting.

It produces three compressed sitemaps. But again, it does not work. See the attachment. Can I perhaps send you these sitemaps via email? If you can have look at it.  Where is the problem? ???

Google says, the site map sitemap1.xml.gz overwrites the maximum filesize. Is sitemap.xml.gz the container? Because Google shows this file too as not okay, the red cross.

Now it seems to work.  ;D
I reduced the Number of URLs per file to 1000, uncompressed.

BUT: It seems there are only images in the sitemaps, says Google, see attachment.
I want to have images in the sitemap, but only? Where is the misunderstanding?

Hello,

you can create a separate sitemap with images option enabled, then another one (with different name) without images.

But I thought, "Include images information in sitemap" means that the sitemap will contain the normal sitemap AND images? Or does it contain only images, when I click "include images"?
