What are the proper paths?

Google wants the sitemap.xml in the root directory. I entered "sitemap.xml" in the "Save sitemap to:" and "Your Sitemap URL:" fields of the Configuration page and saved the changes.
After crawling the site, I go to view the the View Sitemaps page, and the maps are in the generator dir.
How can I get the script to write the file into the root dir?  So the path is [ External links are visible to forum administrators only ]
and NOT [ External links are visible to forum administrators only ]

On the "View Sitemap page it says :

ROR SiteMap
ror.xml

1. XML SiteMap File
./sitemap.xml

[XML-Sitemaps Support]
