Changing file names on my site. Will XML Sitemap help?

I would like to change all the file names on my site to .asp from .html

Will I still keep the page Rank for those page when google crawls again after I update the XML sitemap?

Hope that make sense.

If you change URLs, pagerank you had on old pages will be lost. You can help to transfer it to new URLs with corresponding 301-redirects.
