Can xml-sitemap work with addon domains?

I created an addon domain on hostgator that assigns a domain to a file folder. I uploaded xml-sitemap to a folder inside that file folder. I set all permissions as per instructions and tried to save the config and it doesn't save. When I try to crawl, the screen pops back to the config menu.

Through file manager, I can see that the xml-sitemap files are all showing the correct config. I've tried both paths - of public_html and www and neither work.  See sample below:

/home/myusername/public_html/mydomain/sitemap.xml

/home/myusername/www/mydomain/sitemap.xml

Any ideas what could be wrong?  Thanks!

Did you set 0666 permissions for generator/config.inc.php file?

Yes...all permissions have been set per instructions:
config.inc.php  0666

folder data 0777

created ror.xml   0666
sitemap.xml  0666

In case if settings are not saved it must be related to permissions issue. Can you PM me a temporary FTP access details to check that?
