Crawling Starts But Stops Immediately

I just installed the Standalone Version. When I click on tab CRAWLING, the "CHECK BOX" and RUN are available.  When I click on RUN the screen switches to PLEASE WAIT.... Then it disappears and I am back to the CONFIGURATION Tab.  I tried this several times.  Nothing was written to the SITEMAP.XML file. 

Any ideas?
