I read on the forum quite a long time ago that Google news sitemaps would be supported in the new version. I installed the latest version but I cannot find the news sitemap feature. Are google news sitemaps supported already?

no, they are not currently supported.
News sitemaps (unlike general xml sitemaps) are very specific to a site, including attributes like publication date, genres, specific keywords etc, so it's hard to include it *properly* in sitemap generator so that it suits any website.
We are looking for a possible implementation though.
