Installation on Linux/Apache/php with XCart

I just installed the Standalone version on my site under /public_html/ folder and followed steps verified all permissions when i try [ External links are visible to forum administrators only ] or [ External links are visible to forum administrators only ] I get Page Not found error 404. Is there other cofiguration that I need to do for XCart?

please try to create a file named ".htaccess" in generator/ folder with one line:
RewriteEngine off

(if you can provide a temporary ftp access for troubleshooting in private messagge we will check the issue further)
