sitemap never gets generated

I successfully installed the Standalone Sitemap Generator and started generating my first sitemap for a site that has about 13,000 pages. After a few minutes I get the message shown below but it stays that way for days and nothing gets generated. I found the other forum comment about increasing the memory and time settings in the php.ini file so I already made those changes. Now what do I do?

what are your current setting in php.ini?

All I did was edit the php.ini file to increase the memory from 128 MB to 512 MB and increased the time from 300 seconds to 500 seconds.
