Broken links page is a great tool but!...

It is very time consuming as it doesnt give you a full list.

You run the sitemap generator and want to fix broken links.
It finds one on /a.htm and 123.htm is broken, it reports it as a broken link.

So you go to /a.htm and fix the broken link to 123.htm to what it should be.

Rerun, and now /b.htm is pointing to 123.htm as broken, so go fix b.htm.

It would be nice if we could have it give a full report of broken links and referers. Would just speed the repair process by miles.

Hello,

the problem is that in many cases websites are dynamically generated, and as a result:
- it's possible that ALL pages (may be thousands) will link to the same broken link, creating an unreadable list of broken links (and large to process)
- it is only required to modify the link in one place to correct it on all pages

I am sorry but like I said, you don't just fix it in one place to fix it in all.

if a.htm links to 123.htm and 123.htm does not exist and you edit a.htm not to link to 123.htm anymore.
b.htm still links to 123.htm so the problem is there.
Rerun and now c.htm is reported to link to 123.htm.

Can there be an option added to make a full list? and a short list (how it is now) (and the default setting) for use with the dynamic sites you mentioned?

Thanks,

Rob.

Hello Rob,

thank you for suggestion, we will consider adding this option in next versions of sitemap generator.
