Issues with Sitemap - Need Some Help!

I have been trying to get sitemap implemented over our articles section for quite some time now and keep running into the following two issues:

1. The generated sitemap is not including all of the published article urls within the articles directory.

2. Google is refusing to approve the generated sitemap in either the .xml or .xml.gz format.

After trying everything I can think of and really could use some help getting these two issues resolved.
