Not all pages are indexed

I have noticed not all of my pages/URL are indexed in the sitemap. Most of the pages that are not indexed are not accessible from the homepage.
Is it safe to assume that the pages are not indexed in the sitemap because they are not accessible from the homepage?
Is there a way to get them indexed without being accessible from the homepage?

it's not necessary that they need to be linked directly from homepage, but there must be a way to reach those page (with a few clicks or more), to find that page.

Yes, the pages could not be reached at all. Created a link to the pages and they all got indexed.
