to recurse or not w/ FTP

Ive been meaning to ask you, when one FTP's the /data/ folder with 777 or 755, do ALL files in /data/ get 777/755?

the files inside of generator/data/ folder remain with default permissions, 0777 is set to data/ folder itself only.

And what are folder and file defaults?

Default for files is usually 0644, for folders it's 0755.
