very uneven split in sitemaps files

Please help, lately happening: sitemaps generated without any problem but when submitted to googles, there was error: "sitemap file exceeds maximum size". When I look at the 3 files generated, the sizes are: 594/ 13298530 / 6437207. No wonder the 2nd file (sitemap1.xml) exceeds maximum size, but why is the program doing so and how to solve? Using standalone latest version.

the first file is an "idnex" that only contains links to other sitemap files. You should decrease the "Number of URLs per xml file" setting (divide that number by 2) and regenerate sitemap.
