sitemapindex.xml question

Hi,
Do I need to create a sitemapindex.xml listing all individual sitemap.xml , sitemap_images.xml, sitemap_video.xml, etc OR not ?
Seems Google does not recognize my sitemapindex.xml but don't know if I've done something wrong.

You should submit different kinds of sitemaps separately to google.
