Can sitemaps be made for subdomains?

I added [ External links are visible to forum administrators only ] and [ External links are visible to forum administrators only ] to the google webmaster tool, and came here to try to make a subdomain sitemap but it would not allow it... IF I make the subdomain sitemap by hand will google accept it? I noticed that you cannot add a subdomain url into the mydomain sitemap... Is the correct way to get the subdomain crawled to make a subdomain sitemap... I was able to get the subdomain verified and added to google tools...

you should create a separate sitemap for a subdomain and submit it to google as well.
