Sitemap hangs

I bought the XML Sitemaps a week ago and found it constantly hangs around 2,000 urls and doesn't go any further.  I have made various tweaks to the config without any noticeable difference. Any ideas what I can try, as I have a software that doesn't do what it should at the moment.
