Sitemap and google

I am running a blog based on voucher directory and it is running from UK Click [ External links are visible to forum administrators only ].

I would like to know if I submit sitemap as .xml file format, is it good for google to find info quickly or it does not matter.
Can I also ask you how sitemap helps to get more traffic?

I found it quite irregular design or something missing. Any suggestions please?

You can change HTML sitemap setting from "Tree-like" to "Plain list".
