Cannot delete data files

Hi.

The crawl got stuck, and I could not find a way to stop it, so I thought that I would delete all of the files and upload again to start from scratch. Most files were deleted OK, but there is a session file in the data folder that refuses to be deleted and also the mod folder in the pages folder cannot be deleted, even though it is empty. When I try to upload a new set of files and folders the upload stops early with "error occurred during transfer" message. It seems that although I have deleted most of the files, something is still running and creating files in the data folder. How can I stop this so that I can re-start from scratch?

It is OK now. I changed permissions on the data folder to 444 and that let me delete the folders and start again.
