Cron not writting to sitemaps

Hi I've set up a cron and as far as I can see everything is set up correctly. I have set up:
ror.xml (this is populated by cron)
sitemap.xml (not populated)
sitemap_images.xml (not populated)

I've set the permissions to 666 and the xml files are in the root directory.
Actually... I've just run a manual crawl and the only thing being populated is the ror.xml.

What could be wrong please?
