Hanging on creating changelog

I updated to the 6.1 version, and can't get to the end of a spidering. Here's what I see after each attempt:

Total pages indexed: 2586
Creating sitemaps... and calculating changelog...
49%

I doubled my server php INI to 45 for time execution, and 64MB for memory, but this did not cause any alteration after I restarted the manual crawling for interrupted session, several times.

Okay - - I'm getting better results now. I removed links into some deeper levels, and now the XML generates quickly, with no problem. It was apparently getting hung up in some deeper link levels. Don't know why but I am assuming some confusion in my linking that needs to be streamlined.
