How to Install 7.1 Upgrade Over Version 6.0?

Hi,
   How do I install the current version 7.1 as an upgrade over my installed version of 6.0? I looked at the install PDF but didn't see how to do an upgrade install.
    What files should I avoid over-writing to keep all my preferences the same and the current sitemap in place?
