I BELIEVE EVERYTHING IS SET UP RIGHT.  WHEN I GO TO /GENERATOR I GET AN ERROR PAGE - NEED PASSWORD TO LOG IN.  ANY THOUGHTS?

Perhaps you've defined the login/password for sitemap generator interface. You can find it out in generator/config.inc.php file (open it via FTP):
'xs_login'=>'xxxxx',
'xs_password'=>'xxxxx',
