Upload of xml sitemap to NVU FTP

Hi,
Please would you be able to help me.
I have downloaded a sitemap from the xml-sitemap free generator. If I open it on my download menu, it takes me to an internet site. From there, I saved it into my webpage folder as Sitemap.xml. Then went to NVU and uploaded that file into /Sitemap part. It came up blank.- but I published it anyway and got error:XML Parsing Error: syntax error
Location: [ External links are visible to forum administrators only ]
Line Number 1, Column 63:<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">

You should enter https://www.xml-sitemaps.com/download/kidzpartypackz.co.uk/sitemap.xml URL in your browser address bar, it will ask you where to save the file. Save the file (sitemap.xml) on your PC and then upload it to your site.

Hi, thank you. I have done that.
I then opened the saved file in NVU thinking to save that into the site. It starts to open and then gives error message :'this page can't be edited for unknown reason'.
Do I need to change NVU settings maybe?
