Unexpected T_STRING?

On both the sitemap.xml and ror.xml I get the following error

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in *removed*/public_html/sitemap.xml on line 1

WTF? The HTML and TXT generated ones are perfect, not so much for that.

make sure that you have setup file permissions correctly (0666 permissions for ror.xml and sitemap.xml files).
