Tried the google way

I tried placing a site map so many times with google but it never worked, always some errors came up or or or they had so many reasons, then one day I was on another site and they mentioned your way, I tried it (got a little confused on what to do ) placed your sitemap.xml in my root folder and wam bam thankyou mam google did its crawl and now I am listed at long last.....thank you
