same site private domain does not work

Hi there,
I ran xml sitemap generator against [ External links are visible to forum administrators only ] and it showed an error.  Then I tried the full address (same site if you want to try and to navigate) [ External links are visible to forum administrators only ] and it worked fine.

Could someone please explain me why?
