it wont start crawling!

 I have followed the installation instructions carefully, checked file and folder permissions etc. but when I click on the "crawling" tab (or lnk) and log in I get kicked back to the "configuration" page.  It won't start crawling.

There are 2 error messages a the bottom of the configuration page as follows. A

Any help / ideas would be appreciated.
