Is a sitemap important for me?

Hi,
I have a domain which is 6 years old. With the site-command in google I can see that my site has over 50.000 results. The XML-Sitemap has now only 5.700 sites indexed. So it is important to announce the sitemap in google?

yes, submitting sitemap to Google will help to index site better snce it might include pages that are not indexed yet (especially new pages)
