Cleaning up .log and sess_ files

I've setup the sitemap.xml.gz generator to run nightly off a cron job.
I have noticed that each night it creates a new .log and sess_ file that appears to remain on the system.

Is there a way for this solution to clean up its own log and sess_ files or do I need to create a cron job to remove them?

there is an option in advanced settings of generator that allows to cleanup the files after specified number of days.
