Site Map Help
« on: November 05, 2012, 04:45:48 PM »
Hi all,

I'm looking for some help.

I'm in the very early stages of building my website. From studying and online marketing course i have developed the way to optimize a website through content and keys words. However i haven't learn a lot about Sitemaps.

1st the terminology: When is search on Google there are several site that show several pages for example when i search cnn.com in Google it bring up there home page but also 6 other pages below. I assume this is done via SITEMAP but how? also what is this called?

Also i have create my sitemap via XML.Sitemaps. Do i need to refresh this map by creating and uploading to my FTP sever every time i create a new webpage?

Would appreciate any help on these matters. Also it explained in basic terms. Also any suggestion on my website on how i can make it better are always greatly appreciated [external links are visible to admins only]

Hello,

> I assume this is done via SITEMAP but how? also what is this called?

No - sitemap contains links to all pages on your site, which helps search engines to crawl/index your site more efficiently. It's up to google to decide to show site links (those 6 additional links you mentioned)

Yes, it's recommended to update sitemap when new pages are added.
