xml write errors

I am getting error messages like

Sitemap file is not writable: [ External links are visible to forum administrators only ]
Sitemap file is not writable: [ External links are visible to forum administrators only ]

although my FTP shows the files as 666
When I run the crawler the xml files are generated and stored in the data and generator directories.  Is this a result of the warning(s)

the "Save sitemap to" setting should contain the file path instead of the link (like /path/to/domainroot/sitemap.xml)

Long path from the error.log fixed this also.
