Google Search Console error Incorrect structure & invalid xml tag

After using XML Sitemaps PHP version for years, I now get errors when uploading it to the Google Search Console.
It tells me Incorrect structure (1 case) & invalid XML tag (21223 cases).
Sitemap is at [ External links are visible to forum administrators only ]

Thus, there are 0 found urls and Google isn't indexing anything.

I don't see any apparent bugs. Any idea? Thanks.

That is a previously reported error, dated back to 15.10.2021

The screenshot is just an explanation of the errors found. When I upload a new sitemap.xml it's shown with 21224 errors and last read 15.10.2021, while the explanation is not obvious if it's show for the last read or the current uploaded sitemap. Usually, my sitemaps were recognized by Google at least one or two weeks after submitting. It seems odd, it's not read since over two months. So I assumed, there are problems with the newly submitted ones.

Please try to resubmit sitemap renamed to a different filename.

If I rename the sitemap to a different name, Google Search Console doesn't read it.

Make sure to rename it on your website as well so that you can access it via that name.

Of course I also renamed the file itself.
Now I have identical files sitemap.xml and sitemop.xml on [ External links are visible to forum administrators only ]
Google still claims it couldn't read the file.

Looks like googlebot had issues connecting to your website, you can try to resubmit it after a while.
