configuration not saved and crawling doesn't start

After uploading the generator map to my website and making the following permissions:

map generator/data: 777
file sitemap.xml: 666
file ror.xml: 666

I opened the webpage but any changes I make to the configuration where not stored. (manually altering generator.conf is possible off course through ftp but I don't want to do that)
I reinstalled the map twice from the beginning, hoping I had missed a line in the installation guide but still it doen't work.

But the worst thing is that nothing happens when I click on Run on the Crawling page, the site just returns to the configuration page. I searched the forum for a while but couldn't find any answer for this problem. Anyone has an idea?

please try to create a file name ".htaccess" in generator/ folder with one line:
RewriteEngine off

  That I didn't think of that myself.... a week ago I had been playing around with rewriterules.
